Chapter Thirty-One: The Morning After

"Ugh," Isaac groaned, rolling over. Why did it feel as if he was sleeping on the floor. He opened his eyes to reveal pale blue carpeting and the foot of a bed. Because you are on the floor, idiot, he thought to himself. He tried to sit up, but a heaviness in his brain kept him on the floor. What is wrong with me? he wondered. Then he remembered. "Oh man," he said, trying once again to sit up. He succeeded this time, saved only by clutching the edge of the bed in front of him. "I need to find Tay and Zac."

This motion must have stirred the others around him, because the began to wake up groggily in the next few minutes. Deciding that they were sharing the worst hangovers in history, they then realized that they had exactly one hour to get ready to go for another day on the road at 10 AM.

"Damn," Hunter sighed. "I don't think I've ever felt this bad before in my life."

"Me neither," Isaac agreed. "Hey, you didn't happen to see my little brothers anywhere lately did you?"

"Nah," Drew said, coming up behind them. "They went back last night. I remember Zac going back, then Tay ran out sometime."

"Thanks man," Isaac said appreciatively. "I better go make sure they're getting ready to go then," he added, heading towards the door. He had no idea or memory of what had gone on the previous night. He walked down the hall to their room and slid his hand in his pocket, fumbling for a key. "Tay's got my key!" he realized. He knocked loudly on the door.

A minute later, the door flew open to reveal Zac, dressed and showered, glaring angrily at him.

"We've been waiting on you for TWO HOURS!" Zac cried. "Where were you? We called the room you were in, but nobody picked up. And I knocked on the door forever, but nobody answered it. We have to go in forty-five minutes, so get your butt in gear and get ready. Do you understand?"

"Whoa," Isaac said, taking a step back. "Chill Zac. I was asleep."

"You weren't asleep, you were drunk!" Zac said, pulling Isaac in the room and slamming the door behind him. "Don't deny it - your hair is screwed, your eyes are bloodshot, and you smell horrible. Go take a shower."

"Yes sir," Isaac said. He gave Zac a military salute, but hit himself in the forehead harder than he expected. "Ow."

"Go on, go on," Zac said. He pushed Isaac into the main room. Taylor was there, packing his suitcase.

"Dang man," Isaac said in a low voice. "You look like hell Tay."

"Don't." The iciness in Taylor's voice was enough to stop Ike's questions.

"Whatever," Isaac said. He grabbed a pair of cords and a shirt and headed to the shower.

"Only ten minutes until we get to our resort," the bus driver said. "Ski Mountain Winter Resort."

Taylor looked around as everyone around him began to wake up. His eyes lit on Isaac and Nicole in the seat next to his. Isaac was awake with his arm loosely draped around her shoulder while she slept. She looked like an angel with her long brown hair framing her face and a gentle smile on her lips. Isaac leaned over and kissed her on the nose, awakening her, and she smiled happily up at him. A single tear formed in the corner of Taylor's eye, and he turned away angrily.

It should be him sitting there with her. It should be him kissing her nose to wake her up, and kissing her lips to show how much he cared for her. It should have been him with his arm around her, and it should have been him sexily tracing a path on her leg with his fingertip.

But it wasn't him. It was Isaac. Isaac had Nicole, and Isaac loved Nicole. Nicole loved Isaac. And Taylor loved Nicole too. But of course that didn't matter. None of his feelings mattered. The past months had been nothing but emotional beating for him. His musical career was taking off, and his life was sinking to an all-time-low. But no one even knew. He used to have one person who he could explain all of his feelings and problems too. This person was there for him and cared for him no matter what. But now that person seemed to be the one causing his pain. Nicole.

Why couldn't things just be easier? Why couldn't they go his way for once. She would be better with him, and he knew it. But why didn't she know? Couldn't she see it?

"Tay? Hello, earth to Tay!" Zac's voice broke through his thoughts. "Well..."

"Well what?" Taylor asked distractedly, still lost in his dreams.

"Well, I was just sitting here wondering whether you're going to stay on the bus or get off like everyone else." He nodded around the empty bus.

"Oh...I'm getting off," Taylor said, blushing. He stood and quickly followed his younger brother off the bus.

"Tay," Isaac said later that night, "some of us are going out to that teen club down the street. You coming?"

"Nah," Taylor said, not looking at his brother.

"Why Taylor?" Ike asked. "Why don't you want to go? You need to do something. All you've done for this whole trip so far is mope around looking all sad. You need to go out and have fun."

Taylor rolled his eyes, annoyed. "Fine Ike, I'll go. And I'll promise to have tons of fun too." He smiled fakely at him.

"Don't give me that crap Tay," Isaac said. "Are you ready to go?"

"Nope," Taylor said. "Give me a minute."

Nicole looked at her watch and then up at Isaac. "He's changing clothes," Isaac explained. "He'll be down here in a minute." No later than this sentence came out of Ike's mouth, Taylor came out of the elevator. Nicole silently sucked in her breath and looked at him in awe. Taylor looked amazing.

His clean, long hair shined golden in the light and was pulled back into a loose ponytail. He was wearing a black tee shirt with a blue shirt unbuttoned over it and the sexiest black leather pants she had ever seen.

"Ready to go guys?" he asked, locking his eyes on her. She nodded dumbly as Isaac said "Yeah," and they left. The group walked about a block down the street before reaching the club, which could probably be heard for miles. Nicole recognized the song that was blaring - it was the remixed version of "Mouth" by Bush. They were allowed inside, and Nicole curiously looked around. She had never been inside of a club before. Every surface was shiny, black, and metallic, and there were colored lights and disco balls spinning everywhere. The dance floor was huge with four large strobe lights in each corner. The place was pretty full, but not packed with people. She could tell that this was going to be an amazing night.
