Chapter Twenty-Eight: The Bus Trip

"Okay, now that everyone's here," Christen said when they arrived, "let's get the introductions over with." Nicole looked from person to person as they identified themselves. "I'm Christen, duh. And I'm sixteen."

"I'm Hunter, and I'm sixteen," said a cute guy with chin-length blond hair and dark brown eyes.

"Laura, fourteen," said a pretty, strawberry-blond haired girl. She smiled to reveal clear braces, just like Ike's. Things went on pretty much like this, and Ike, Taylor, Zac and Nicole were also introduced to Josh, Amy, Shannen, Drew, and Nick. They were also introduced to the club's advisor, Miss Parker. She looked about twenty-five. She also looked like someone who wouldn't give a rip what the kids did on this trip.

"So you guys ready to go?" Christen asked as they stepped onto the bus.

"Yeah!" Zac cried, jumping up and down.

"Absolutely," Nicole said. She took a window seat beside Isaac, and Zac sat wih Taylor in the seat in front of them. Only seconds later, he had music blaring through his headphones.

"So how long are we on the road?" Isaac asked.

"All day today, all night, all tomorrow, stop at a hotel tomorrow for tomorrow night, and half of Sunday," the boy named Josh offered. He had ear-length brown hair and blue eyes.

"Man," Isaac said, shaking his head. "That seems like forever."

"When do we have to come back home?" Taylor asked.

"Next Thursday," Nicole said. The bus started then, and soon they were on their way.

One Day Later

"Zac, if you sing that song one more time, I swear that I'll strangle you!" Isaac said, putting his head through the seat where Zac was on the millionth verse of "The Song That Never Ends". Seeing the maniacal look in his brother's eyes, Zac shut up immediately. Seconds later, someone began humming the tune again. "Jordan Taylor, I have had six hours of sleep on a bus in the past two days, the batteries are dead in my CD player, and I will not regret throwing you out the window if you hum that ONE MORE TIME!"

"Oh, my bad," Taylor said, smiling smugly back at him.

Isaac rested his forehead against the cool glass of the window, trying to calm himself into sleep. From somewhere closer to the front of the bus the group of girls, including Nicole, burst into giggles. He didn't catch what they were laughing about. Ike couldn't wait for this bus trip to be over.

"Pinewood Mountain Lodge," recited Zac, reading the name of the North Carolinian hotel from the sign out front. The hotel was a huge, exquisite building with a beautiful view of the mountain. And Zac couldn't wait to explore it. He had only been to North Carolina once before, and that was for a concert. But he found himself very attracted to the nature and wildlife of the mountains.

"We're here Tay," he said, shaking his older brother excitedly. Taylor groaned and rolled over in his seat, yawning.

"Whoa...I didn't know that this place was going to be so huge!" Taylor said. "Ya know, from the name, I thought it would be a little cabin or something. This place must have about a billion square feet."

"Yep...we just have to remember not to blade down the hallway here," Zac cracked, remembering the last time they got into trouble in a hotel.

Taylor put his head between the seats to see if Isaac was awake. Zac looked back to see that Isaac was still asleep, his head resting on Nic's shoulder, while she slept too. Then Zac noticed a silent flare in Taylor's eye, which was gone as quickly as it came. I wonder what that was for, he thought. But the thought soon passed because they awoke and everyone quickly exited the bus.

"Okay, I've got the bed by the window," Taylor said, sitting his bags down on the bed in question. Isaac and Zac surprizingly agreed, and they each chose from the two other beds.

"So what's happening tonight?" Zac asked, flopping down onto the middle bed.

"Drew said for everyone to come to his room around eleven," Isaac said. "It's room 817."

"Does that advisor lady care that we're out of our rooms at night?" Taylor asked curiously.

"I don't think she knows about it," Isaac said. He looked at the clock then, which read 9:35. "I think I'm going to take a shower before we go."

"I'll take one after you," Taylor said, touching his oily hair. "Are you gonna go with us Zac?"

"Of course I am!" Zac said. "It wouldn't be a party without me there anyway," he added with a grin. Taylor rolled his eyes good-naturedly and laughed. Just then, the phone rang.

"Hello, this is Party Central," Zac said. "How may I help you?"

"Hey Zac," Nicole said over the line, laughing. "I just wanted to call and see if you guys knew about the party tonight."

"Yep," Zac said. "We're coming...at eleven, right?"

"Yeah," Nicole said. "Christen is using the shower, and I already took one, so I'm going to come hang out with you guys if it's okay."

"Sure," Zac said. "Come on up. Ike's in the shower," he added, grinning wickedly.

"Well then I'm on my way right now," she said, laughing.

Taylor sighed. He knew he should have expected it, but it still stung to come out of the bathroom and find Isaac and Nicole kissing on the bed.

"Ahem," he said, clearing his throat and signaling that he was in the room.

"Hey Tay," Nicole said, and he felt better seeing how she gazed into the floor instead of looking into his eyes. She hadn't forgotten about him.

"Is Zac in the shower yet?" Isaac asked, unaware of Taylor's thoughts.

"Yeah, I just heard the water come on," Taylor said.

"Damn. I needed to blow dry my hair," Isaac said, running his hands through his tangled, wet locks.

"We've still got an hour," Taylor said, towelling his own hair dry. He didn't see how Ike could stand blow drying his hair. "Plus, Zac won't take long. He's going to be ready to go as soon as he possibly can."

"Are you guys sure that you want Zac to go?" Nicole asked. When they gave her the "Explain" look, she cleared her throat. "Well, I heard that the other kids are pretty, um, wild, and Hunter has a fake I.D."

"OH...," Isaac and Taylor said at the same time, looking at each other and then back at Nicole. "I think Zac can cope," Taylor said uncertainly. "He's a good kid. We won't do anything bad anyways."
